Through the Looking Glass
Just a short Friday observation -
I find it curious that CTOs and VPs - those very same creatures who often cautioned against the use of new technology in the organization lest it quickly be abandoned or fragment the codebase too much - are encouraging engineers to use the latest LLM tool at every turn.
To a not too ridiculous extent, this is akin to throwing out your React codebase in favor of the framework your junior engineer wrote over the weekend. Any reservations I've got about using _hyperscript because it's still pre-1.0 release are quickly dissipating.
Not only are the LLMs themselves non-deterministic - adding a thrilling sense of variability to every interaction - but the agent tools that lie on top of them are generally less than a year old. The Grandaddy of Them All (apologies to Keith Jackson and the Rose Bowl), Claude Code was officially released in May of...last year.
So, the next time someone pushes back when you want to rewrite the financial logic in Zed, you know what to do.
Until next time, my human and robot friends.
