Stats and Updates and Things

I fell off a bit over the last week or so, but my switch to smaller posts has made me feel more productive.  Since announcing my format update about 5 weeks ago, I've posted 16 times.  The posts average roughly ~400 words or 6,400 words in total (though I suspect I'm underselling my verbosity).  If my prior strategy netted me a 1000-word post every week, then, on sheer word count alone, I'm more productive now, even after going dark for the last 10 days.

I keep promising myself that I only have to post 100-250 words per day, but I am unable to edit myself appropriately.

I've also kept tabs on my readership numbers.  Since switching formats, my views have held steady.  The magic number 6 always pops up a few hours after my post (probably due to RSS feed readers or some other means of notifying people that I'm hot off the presses) and, after a couple of weeks, the number of views seems to stabilize around 30.

I have noticed that posting on LinkedIn (or not posting, as is my current state) correlates with readership here.  It's not a surprise, but it's a minor bummer.  I'd like to think that my blog grew with organic search traffic, but 'tis not the case.

Readership was in the mid-100s when I was posting more frequently and seems to have peaked around 1600 on a few posts.  I still have to ask myself if it's worth posting on LinkedIn.  I've had some great interactions with people there, but it's not consistently landing tangible leads or connections, and I'm not going to spend my time attempting to satiate an inscrutable algorithmic beast for eyeballs.

And yet, if a weekly post referencing my blog can generate a bit more traffic here, the minor work is probably worth the effort.  So, maybe.

Enough about numbers.  Slowpoke development is humming along after switching to SimpleFIN, but there's enough work to do that I can't promise a firm release date.  Early Q4 doesn't seem to be a stretch, so I'll tentatively reschedule version 1 for October 1st to give me some accountability.  I'll also have more functionality than I'd originally planned, and I'll use that as my excuse for the blown deadline.

Finally, my boycott against series viewing failed in spectacular fashion.  I've watched a few movies in the interim, but I binge-watched the first season of Dark Skies in a day (it was only 6 episodes at 45 minutes per) and am delving into The Great now.  The Great fits my series-viewing criteria entirely (done after 3-4 seasons and 10-12 episodes per season), while Dark Skies mostly fits it (another season will be released next year, but all of the seasons so far have scored well on Rotten Tomatoes, and AMC doesn't generally let its shows grow long in the tooth except for The Walking Dead - somewhat ironic that it's the zombie show that can't die).

Anyway, that's what I've been up to in the last 10 days.

Until next time, my human and robot friends.
